The Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge is an annual fundraiser for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC). Each year firefighters from around New Zealand and international competitors from Australia, the US, Chile and Germany fundraise and compete in this amazing event at Auckland’s Sky Tower.
The Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge taking place on Saturday 13 May, 2017, will be in its thirteenth year as a fundraiser for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand (LBC).
- 51 flights of stairs
- 1,103 individual steps
- At 328 metres the Sky Tower is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere
- Over 200 brigades participated in the 2016 event
- Firefighters will wear up to 25kg of kit
- 900 firefighters will race up the Sky Tower in 2017
The firefighters fundraise in their communities, receiving support from the public, local businesses and their friends and families. The fundraising totals have increased year on year with the 2015 event hitting the million dollar milestone for the first time. The 2016 target was set at $850,000 which was achieved three days before the event and continued to rapidly climb, raising over $1,160,000 to date.
The event’s major sponsor partners are SKYCITY and Auckland Airport. Support has also been received from Fire Up Events, the New Zealand Fire Service, Pacific Helmets, High Pressure Equipment, The Better Drinks Company, Total Care, and St. John Ambulance. Importantly, this support for the event both financial and in-kind means that every dollar raised by the firefighters comes directly to LBC.
The Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge is a fun and great way of raising funds, while helping the 6 Kiwis diagnosed with a blood cancer every day. If you would like to register your interest in the event please email firstname.lastname@example.org
