- 51 flights of stairs
- 1,103 individual steps
- At 328 metres the Sky Tower is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere
- Over 200 brigades participated in the 2016 event
- Firefighters will wear up to 25kg of kit
- 900 firefighters will race up the Sky Tower in 2017
Tony Scott developed the Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge event in 2005 as a fundraiser for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. Over the years both FireUp Events and LBC teams have worked together to develop a comprehensive event and fundraising model, which is now consistently raising over $1 million.
Now in its thirteenth year the event is delivered jointly by FireUp Events and LBC with the generous cooperation, support and provision of the venue by SKYCITY and Auckland Airport. Support has also been received from the New Zealand Fire Service, Pacific Helmets, High Pressure Equipment, The Better Drinks Company, Total Care, and St. John Ambulance. Importantly, this support for the event both financial and in-kind means that every dollar raised by the firefighters comes directly to LBC.
The Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge is a fun and great way of raising funds, while helping the 6 Kiwis diagnosed with a blood cancer every day. If you would like to register your interest in the event please email email@example.com
